model sheets!

A momentus thing has happened in the progression of this short film! MODELSHEETS... it's been a LOOOOONG road to find this guys, but i believe i have after a year and a half of searching. I am not necessarily a designer. i love design, and find it fascinating, but i don't consider myself a natural at it. It has taken a lot of blood and sweat to find these.

The characters are there, the story is coming together, the design is taking form-- this is so much fun! oh yeah, i still have to find a job! well, i hope everyone enjoys these!

  1. I just stumbled on to your blog. Wow, great stuff! I love the muzzle on the design, look like a lot of fun.very appealing character. That is also some fantastic animation and acting, i'm now inspired to do pick up the pencil again.

  2. I'm so impressed. I'm working on my short right now but I'm still storyboarding. Actually, I'm way in over my head. I'm trying to learn 2d animation.

Character design is such a pain. The cool designs are so hard to construct and the easy ones just suck.

You seem to have a good handle on things though. I think your design is really great and I love how you push and pull that monkey's face and still keep it on model.

  4. Hey thanks guys! Funny thing is Victor you should see some of my early work. I was so in love with Glen Keanes drawing style i just tryed to emulate him all the time. but, i veered from that once i started doing professional work cuz by time my stuff came out of clean-up i was shocked. I started tightening up, and sometimes i was still shocked but much less than i was before. I'm a big James B fan--it's kinda obvious in the drawings.
Ali- thanks again for your compliemtns- like i said i am NOT a natural designer but the main thing is character and appeal for me. Hopefully those 2 things are there. good luck on YOUR short!

  8. Great Work!

It's so funny, I've seem come across many an animator( myself included) that go through a "Glen Keane Phase" where they try to draw exactly like him. Those lines and forms always look so spontaneous and expressive, how can one not!

  9. Matt! Hi! freakin gorgeousness!!!
haha I could totally sense a bit of Glen Keaneness in your first year film. I think it's great! That's because Glen Keane is freakin' awesome. I think to me too, I am super influenced by his stuff. not in the way I animate I think, but just in the way I draw characters and stuff. Do you think you will be teaching next semester? if you do, instead of teaching the first years, do you think you could stick with us? I mean if you don't I'll still sit in your classes, but it would be more than great to have you as a second year teacher.
