So from time to time I get e-mails and comments asking about continuing tutorials on this blog. While I would love to be able to continue to do the same volume of tutorials that i once did, I have to be realistic with myself. When I started this blog my time was much more free and open, now, not so much as I am sure all of you have noticed. But, the initial purpose of this blog was to spread information that I have learned from either people I respect, or just figuring the stuff out so that others could have the same access to, specifically, 2D knowledge. I would love to strike a compromise, so here's the plan. Right now I am on some downtime, waiting for my next job to start and I'd love to do a simple tutorial. So I am going inquire for your vote as to what that tutorial will be about. here are some options:
- Arcs
- Overlap/Follow Through
- Spacing
- How to Turn stuff
- Timing
- Posing and interesting Breakdowns
Just a few to suggest-- but do me a favor and place your vote in the comments section, I'll tally the votes and consider how much time I have to devote to the tutorial and then go from there. Sound good?

Posing and interesting Breakdowns
or
just an idea but it would be cool if you could do something on timeing keys to dialogue. that would be awesome if you could do that.
awesome sauce.
I'd vote for something technical
"How to turn stuff"
I imagine it's more of a draftmanship, solid drawing sort of thing.
Over time I'd like to see how you would go about teaching everything you suggested, so it doesn't really matter to me what you start out with. I am also teaching friends the animation basics, and it's always nice to see someone else's approach to those topics.
How to turn stuff sounds interesting to me as well!
i always think its difficult to pose out a scene where a character is walking around...how much anticipation for him to take a step is too much? people walk/pace around when they talk and its like hard to make that look natural i think. i dont know what to classify that as. full body shot of a character in coversation, kinda shuffling around. a tutorial on that would be sick.
Hey
I've been lurking around this blog for a while.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on "how to turn stuff"
VOTE: How to turn stuff
Can't animate everything on flat planes now can we?
Posing and interesting Breakdowns
Maybe with a little bit of spacing thrown in for where to place the breakdowns.
how to turn stuff, or posing
glad your back to doing the tutorials
Looking forward to the frog!
Posing and interesting breakdowns, please!
turning stuff
turning stuff please
timing please. and tunrning stuff would be my fecond fav.
thx!
"Posing and interesting breakdowns" please
then... if not too much asked :)
..."How to turn stuff" (this might be close to the first one, since a breakdown might show how to turn stuff ^^)
Thanks a lot for asking and giving us such an opportunity to learn from you.
timing!
How to turn stuff please! I suck at drawing camera moves on my storyboards and need to improve! :)
Timing, most definitely! And by the way, thank you so much for even taking the time to share your knowledge :)
Great Idea, how to turn stuff or posing and interesting breakdowns would be really cool.
Posing and interesting breakdowns would be my prime choice.
how to turn stuff
how to turn stuff
all the cg guys give great tips on the other stuff you mentioned (which would be great to hear form you as well), but they don't give you any drawing tips. I always have a problem understanding 2d character design in the 3d space (i mean on paper of course, not computer 3d).
especially the transition of facial design from profile to front view.
How to Turn stuff - because 3D knowledge become more and more required...
I'd love to see spacing but how to turn stuff will be interesting as well
B
how to turn stuff!and then all the rest..
i love your tutorials, so much information you can't get anywhere else..pure gold
please keep doing them,please please..
thank you so much!!
I vote for 'timing'. But whichever category wins, I'd like it to be very specific to a shot you're doing or just one you could do for example sake. I really appreciate these tutorials you have done and intend to do in the future. Thank You!
Posing and interesting Breakdowns!!!
or
Spacing!!! :)
thank you Matt.
how to turn stuff!
Hi Matt,
Thanks so much for sharing what you've learned from other great animators and from personal experience. I really appreciate it! Timing & Spacing would be the 2 that I'd love to learn more about. Thanks again!
Posing and interesting breakdowns. And thanks for taking time to do this.
Though how to turn stuff sounds cool too!
posing and interesting breakdowns... but like everyone else here...anything you talk about would be greatly appreciated.
posing and interesting breakdowns or turning stuff...
